Success
After a long day of cleaning, cooking and waiting. Dinner was delicious. Robert arraigned the flowers and set the table.
The theme for the veggies was root: yam, carrot, parsnip, rutabaga, beet and potato.
The yam and potato were mashed while the carrot, parsnip and rutabaga sliced and put in with the turkey to cook in the juices. The beets were steamed, peeled, sliced and layered with lemon zest and sugar. It smelled fantastic. Tasted pretty good too.
The hard part about peeling hot beets is well, they are HOT and slippery.
I had lots of advice on how to season and prepare the turkey, which was very helpful. thank you. As you can see it looks good.
The pumpkin pie was store bought so next year, pastry is the challenge. It is handy to have a blender as the whipped cream was fresh.
As Maria and I sat and had a post meal chat. Robert cleared the table, put left overs away and stripped the meat off the bones, made a small leftovers togo package for Maria. Very helpful. Now the bones and bits are in a slowcooker and pot there are too many bones for just on dish. I made wayyyyyy to much stuffing and it is merely ok. Not worth saving but a waste to get rid of. Oh well. Next year half the recipe or invite more for dinner.
