Last minute ballet
Just 1 1/2 hours till she would come to get me, Liz, called and asked if I wanted to go see a ballet. It would be a treat as it has been awhile since I have seen any theatre.
We saw:
Ballet Victorias Presentation of
David Earle's
Court of Miracles
"The streets of medieval Paris come to life in a joyous celebration of the miracles of Christmas as a cast of more than 50 dancers and acrobats portray noblemen, courtesans, gypsies and paupers who define the true spirit of giving.
Taking place during the feast of St. Nicholas, the merriment includes a wedding celebration, a banner parade, a feast of fools and more, all taking place while beggars entertain for their day’s take and townspeople gleefully revel in the festivities. Court of Miracles is a celebration of the separate worlds of rich and poor coexisting joyfully."
It was definitely interesting. The costumes ranged from simple and barely there to fantastic elaborate gowns. The dancing was beautiful. Though the kids did steal the show on cuteness alone. The blind beggar did a great job. The lepers were woeful and dreary but had to many digits to be believable. The inmates if the asylum looked as authentic as healthy ballet dancers could look but I could not see that they were portraying all of the 7 deadly sins. Anger and Gluttony came across very nicely.
The donkey and goat costumes were inspired and played very well. Mary went from not even looking pregnant, to giving birth and then dancing rather spryly in one turn of the set. Which was simplistic but easily moveable, silent and had so many different looks to capture.
There was almost too much going on to take it all in. The costumes, dancing, set and music were great. Though I did not really "get" a lot of the plot/script.
The biggest disappointment is that someone sitting nearby was wearing AWFUL perfume/cologne. Both Liz and I were made to feel sick by it. So if you go to any theatre PLEASE PLEASE leave to scent at home. You may not be able to smell it but the rest of us suffer.
Even though no flash photography or recording devices are allowed I saw 2 digital cameras recording and one flash picture was taken. Security was on it so fast and the guy in front of us pointed out the culprit to him.
