In defense of the Bride

In this day and age where many are getting married later in life and themselves shouldering most of the financial aspect of the wedding and reception. It is no wonder that the bride gets stressed out. With the wedding magazines showing lavish pictures that "you too can have", as if every couple has $50000 or more to throw away. Is totaly unrealistic and we are being set up for disappointment. Especially since so much pressure is put on that one day being "perfect", "your special day" and "the big day".

Many women have been raised to expect magic onthe wedding day but have not been told the financial realities or how much to takes to organise even a small wedding. There are suggestions, opinions and shoulds coming at you from all sides. The music should be "______", the groom should wear a tux, roses are all wrong for center pieces, there has to be real flowers in the brides boquet, you have to wear flat shoes as not to be taller than the groom etc...

It seems that with all this going on it is hard to be assertive and say what you realy want. So things slide till it builds up sp much you explode in a fit of frusteration. Then you are called a "Bridezilla". It is not taken into concideration that you may have been pushed to it by in-laws who have too much input, a groom that chooses very litle input, till the decisions have aready been made Or whatever varition your life consists of.

I had a heck of a time just picking up a blender from Sears. The first time I went in the sales staff could not locate the said item and did not know how to advise me. I had taken the bus there specifically to get it. I was told that the item was generally filed under the purchasers name & number which I did not have access to. They did not ask a manager or anyone else to help with the procredure but sent me away empty handed. I emailed the company and the response said that the item was indeed at the store and havd been for a week in another location.

I went back, found the catalogue depot after much searching. They could not find the ticket/order slip. After a phone call and looking at all the tickets found that it was under my fiancees name and phone #. At no time was it mentioned that it was under his name. With that done off to the loading dock and a few minutes later we had the beautiful brushed chrome blender.

It may not seem like much but just goes to show that even a little thing can be stressful. The staff had no clue what to do. I spoke to 4 sales people, sent 2 emails and made a long distance phone call. FOR 1 GIFT. I have 50 guests coming. It will be hell if each pick up requires that much effort. And mine is a small wedding. Can you imagine a wedding with 600 guests?
